Woolly rhino neck ribs present clues about their decline and eventual extinction

A research stories on the incidence of irregular cervical (neck) vertebrae in woolly rhinos, which strongly suggests a weak situation within the species. Given the appreciable start defects which are related to this situation, the researchers argue it is rather potential that developmental abnormalities contributed in the direction of the eventual extinction of those late Pleistocene rhinos.
