Quartz (Var: Amethyst), Pumpellyite


Reed’s Gap Quarry (New Haven Trap Rock quarry; Tilcon Durham quarry), Durham, Middlesex Co., Connecticut, USA

Very unusual behavior of quartz, like a reverse scepter, or a scepter that has a “collar” round it, unsure what went on right here, however enjoyable to photograph. Notice the amethystine terminations, the darkish pumpellyite globules, and in some pix the skinny hematite “strains” alongside the sides of crystals
